Guys.... having major issues with slidey throwing the passengers side driveshaft out of the wheel assembly at the moment, only happens when i am turning to the left........ have gone through the issues of height and damaged shaft... both have been checked out with the criclip being replaced on the shaft and the spline checked.

Put the shaft back in and lowered the car down a bit today and went to get a leak in the exhaust fixed, turned left in to the exhaust shop and once again we have no drive........

I have now had him towed twice in three days, not counting the big tow from NSW 8)

Do you guys have any thoughts on the issue, cos info would be a great help.......

BTW i have pot joints in slidey if that is any help

where is it coming out, the pot end or the cv end, if it the pot end, it could be a missing ball bearing, worn race, or worn pot(unlikley) my money would be on the race. When you apply pressure at full lock a bearing can pop out and thats enough for them all to pop out. If it the cv end, then there is way too much play in the cv joint ( that is if the circlip is fitted) you will need to replace your cv.
Anyone else?

Cheers

Aaron

Taking out Morris Engine this week I had to release the top Ball joint on both side but its the Pax side when turning left..Something is a miss  I would normaly think it would pop out the otherside...Check Top ball joint...Hmmmmm tie rods maybe :?

Get it up on axle stands and some one to turn the Steering wheel and see whats not correct....Safley...it may not show up as thier is no pressure but it may show something

Mmm, sounds like worn race or cage at pot end, yeah once 1 ball falls out if it aint packed with grease, the rest will just fall straight out. Id be sussing the pot end 1st.

aaron, gaf... thanks for the response.... the circlip is still there and it is releasing from the cv joint end......... any other thoughts?????

PS There does seem to be a shitload of play in the actual shaft itself from the pot end (as in diff end yes?)... as in u can pull on the shaft and move it back and forth.... is this normal???

Sorry guys, this is my first mini and i am kind of being a sponge at the moment trying to sort this so forgive me if i get the terminology mixed up....

The pot joint is what's called a `plunging joint' and the shaft is designed to move in and out of it with suspension movement. Unlike the CV end the ball tracks are parallel to allow this.
Sounds like it could be catching in the pot joint somehow, that then pulls it free from the CV....

Steve was thinking about the circlip today on the way home. Yeh I know need to get a life. New clip didnt work huh? Hmmm possibly there is something caught in the groove of the CV joint itself that is preventing the circlip from expanding and locking home properly. There are new inner boots on the Pot joint as well. Just check they arent seated too far in. There should be very little tension on the boot when the wheel is in the full travel position. Perhaps this is stopping the pot joint from sliding out fully? Just a random thought. Can always try another pot joint shaft. Will chat to AB about it tomorrow.
