I have had an issue with rust on the LH A pillar next to the screen, there are a couple of small holes so I want to cut the rot out and parch it with the MIG. RH side I would have no qualms about doing, but the LH one has the wiring in there. Any easy way to pull the wiring up out of the way via the interior light hole, and yank it back down after? I have the 1 piece stuck in headliner.... and I'm damned if I want to remove it.

excuse me doctor, but whats wrong with unplugging it at either end and welding the thing, if the wiring doesnt work replace it, you might be lucky and have no probs at all, feels like going "dr what happens when you swallow detergent" |

I had an issue once before with wiring shorting in there in my old S, driving along and car filled with smoke- so I'd rather not tempt fate. If I knew it was away from the arc, OK. Maybe I can bung something in there to protect the wiring, then weld it.

how big is the rust hole maybe you can poke the protection through the rust hole, pin hole definition changes from person to person, |

Wet waste cloth over the wires and under the cutout perhaps attached to a tie wire that can be pulled out like a ummmm... dare i say it ...... tampon |

Mike, Hmmm yes- maybe I could pull it out downwards thru that hole in the A pillar.... Buztoy, Holes will be 15mm dia by the time I enlarge them. I could just bog them now, but we know what happens then...

Doc if the holes are going to be 15 mm you could poke some of thet thermo tec fiberglass heat sheild stuff in over the cables then weld up and hopefully teh Fiberglass stuff will protect it or could you inject some manifold cement in to insulate the cables?? just a couple of ideas |

Maybe you could get somebody to TIG it up for you too keep the heat down. |

I have acquired some dense fibreglass matting at work, if I slot between the holes I can get in there and pack the wires away with it to the other side. Then make a decent patch.

get a bit of another wire (does not have to be electrical, as it is just to take the heat), twist ends together and tape over the joint, to the top end or bottom end whichever is shorter. pull through until the new disposable wire is in the space under the weld. do the weld and then just pull the original wire back into place. you might consider just doing this with a new wire after the welding to ensure that the wires are good anyway. cheers michael |

I have the 1 piece stuck in headliner.... and I'm damned if I want to remove it. Don't think they would pull too easy - too mant bends. What about PUSHING? Use the good old coat hanger,- attach end of wires and push then up the pillar past the holes - leave in place while welding then pull back down. |

Doc. I have done some welding with the mig near my wires before. I used some ehaust tape to wrap the wires to protet them, worked a treat. If you dont have any you could get a fire blanket from bunnings or supercheap, The type you use in the kitchen. Would do the job i think. |
