Post subject:  Amps or Volts Gauge
As it says really which one is the better amps or volts... Volts I get but amps im not to sure about.. What gauge should be in my mini?

In the old days we used to fit an `amp meter' (correct spelling = ammeter) but this involves putting big wiring (that will handle all the car's current flow, except starter) behind the dash. There is a fire risk unless done properly.
A Voltmeter is more useful, it will tell you your battery charge level and only needs light wiring to connect it up.

Neither were factory fitted. I have a voltmeter in the boat, but have never felt the need for one in the Minis. :wink:

Yeah not really much point in havin either, unless ur running massive spot lights a huge stereo and u have an under powered alternator and a clapped out battery. Thats about the only time it would come in handy.

Will just let u know when u need to push start it or get it jumped!

A simple way to think of volts and current is to picture a hose with running water.

Imagine volts to be the temperature of the water and current to be the amount of water coming out of the hose.

Basically u could have water at 26 degrees (volts) flowing at 10 mL (current) per minute.

This is comparable to voltage and current.

Sure u could have 26 Kv (26 thousand volts) but at only 10mA (.010 of an Amp) its not going to kill u if u touched it. So even if u have high voltage, if its only low current u wont die!
