The 1100 engine is supposed to have a 4 synchro box attached so I got the 4 synchro kit an some other bearings not in the kit sent out from MS - nearly $500 worth.

When I pulled the box apart it's a bleeding 3 synchro - layshaft is different some of the bearings are different so I'm at a bit of a wall.

Cost too much to send the bits back - do I buy more bits (including some damaged gears) to rebuild the 3 synch box or do I buy a 4 synch box ?

What would you pay for a 4 synchro box needing a rebuild?

Not sure on what it's worth but I'd say go the 4 synchro option and rebuild it with the stuff you've bought , you'll definitely know what you've got then and a 4 synchro is that bit easier to drive if you have a lot of traffic lights .

Ask around here
Maybe someone has a gearbox that you can have fairly cheaply.

The four syncho is a better box - they ironed out a few bugs by then.

If they sent out the wrong kit shouldn't they be paying postage back?

Try to get a 4 synchro I reckon. Obviously you want a remote box?

Is this a morris 1100
Whilst everything is ultimately interchangable, the Morris 1100 has a different setup for the remote where it bolts up to the gear box

No Mini 1100 motor in a MK1 shell - I want to put the magic wand diff housing on it - hope I can get as good a match as I've got with the current box :?

i paid $300 for mine, that had no involvment from me though, took my 3 synchro box in too find out how much i was looking at for a rebuild, guy knew someone with a spare box, so for the price of getting my 3 syncrho rebuilt i got a 4 synchro with new bearings throughout and gearset that is in decent condition

Don't know if it would work (maybe those with mokes can help), but the late model mokes had rod change that is similar to magic wand, I think it's got a really short selector rod etc practically bolted to the rear of the casing?

It's sort of similar but still a bit long . We were looking at a similar idea with minivanman's rod change shifter into a magic wand hole , it will just fit with some stuffing around and you'd have to make up a new gear lever that was long enough and bent right but the biggest drama is the lift to change into reverse lock . It works alright on a normal gear lever directly above the shifter box but would be very difficult on a magic wand length gear lever .

I have the necessaries to do the moke type change as well as the MK1 diff bits so I can go either way, Just need to make the decision to buy a 4 synhro box. I've been offered one for $300 complete with clutch housing which is attractive - just need to bite the bullet :?
