im sure they could do, bmw only killed it off so they could sell something twice the price

Not really , the classic mini had been moded and moded so many times to meet the rule updates throughout it's life anyway but it would be horrifying to see what they would cost with mod's to current spec , and then you'd still have a motor dating back to the 50's and a 4 speed box or weaker 5 speed , would you still buy a commodore or falcon new with a three on the tree and pushrod carb fed 6 as opposed to an OHC injected 6 withcomputer controlled 5 speed auto ???? At that point the only way possible to do it would have been a full redesign , similar to what BMW did anyway , maybe aimed at the original mini's market though , cheap and ccheerful without all the gadgets . Probably a japanese manufacturer would be the best to redo the classic mini if it was ever to be done , 660 cc turbo alloy motor , 5 speed box etc etc , oh , hang on , it's been done ....
