OK, so I bought a new speedo cable for my '68 deluxe. I then got very oily trying to disconnect it from the engine. How the hell do you undo the nut without taking things off? I can get my hand in there to turn it, but I can't undo it cos I can't get a spanner in there. I don't have any stubby spanners, but even with one it would be damn near impossible to do. Does anyone have any quick and/or easy way of disconnecting and reconnecting a speedo cable? Thanks |

shouldn't have a nut, it's a knurled knobby sort of thing, it's done up finger tight - your new cable should be the same. Easiest way is with the radiator out - or at least the bottom radiator hose. Give it a good clean with degreaser and dry it out, clean your hands so you can grip the bastard and you might get it out ![]() |

Put it on a %$^& hoist, you can attack it better from below. ![]() |

I have it up on ramps, so I can attack it from below. I can get my hand in around the drive shaft but there's no way I can get any of my spanners in there. And it definately has a nut its 7/8 and its not done up finger tight, or if it is, its tighter than my fingers can turn. It would definately be easier with the radiator out as the lower hose is in the way. I might try that and replace my radiator at the same time. What a ^%@$ of a job. |

From the top, if you pull the rad and hose out you can just get a pair of multigrips onto the knurled nut.. at least I did, a long time ago. |
