Howdy folks.

How do i ID what Carby the Open Classic has?

From reading up it should be either a HIF38 or 44... Is there a visual ID on the Carby somewhere?

They both look almost identical. The main difference from memory is that the hif44 has a larger diameter opening. the hif44 had a 44mm opening and the hif38 had a 38mm opening.
If the carby is on the car the easiest way to tell is by removing the dashpor and look at the three letters stamped on the needle, if it is a Hif38 it will proberbly have a needle starting with A ie ADU or similar. The Hif44 will usually have a needle with a B prefix. ie BDU or similar. there proberbly is an esier way of telling but i dont know it, just going by differences as per my Metro workshop manual.

There is an easier way. If the carby is held onto the manifold flange with two bolts, it's a HIF38. If it's a square flange held on with four bolts, it's a HIF44.

Standard on an Open Classic (1275cc Carby engine) is the HIF38. Only the MG Metro, Metro Turbo and Carb Coopers got the HIF44.

Actually, if you don't mind, can you take a pic of how the carb links to the throttle cable on your car? I'm trying to fit a HIF38 to my Moke, and I think part of the throttle linkage is missing. If I had a decent pic I could probably sort out what's missing.

Cheers,

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure what the hif38 looked like as I have never physically had contact with one. I am in the process of fitting an hif44 to my car to maake it a bit tamer to drive in traffic.
