Post subject: | A question re non-ferrous metals |
Hi all, firstly I would like to say what a great forum - I have just spent a while reading through heaps of articles that have given me some great ideas for my rebuild - plus also an insight into what a bunch of "mini mad nutcases" you all are ![]() The question I have is what types of metals are referred to as non-ferrous metals - are car bodies non-ferrous metal ? Why I ask is I have a can of primer that advises it is excellant adhesion on bare metal but do not paint on non-ferrous metals without using etch primer first. prior to painting I have always used etch primer - this is more a question of curiosity rather than anything else. |

non-ferrous metals are all the metals that are not iron/steel. ie Brass, copper, aluminium etc If a magnet sticks to it it is ferrous if not it is non-ferrous (or some stainless steels don't attract magnets) |

Non Ferrrous meaning no-iron (abbreviated to FE from Ferrous in the table of elements). That includes metals like aluminium, zinc and lead. Minis are definately ferrous. parts are even Ferric Oxide. |
