Hey guys,

OMG, I have just seen some rust starting to come through on the passenger side door! I'm just wondering if anyone has got just a door repainted before and how much did it cost? Its not bad yet - it's about 3 little spots about 1 to 2mm in dia, I don't want to let it get too bad. Noticable rust doesn't look good on any car.

Cheers

thats on the outside?...its whats happening down the bottom and on the inside usually....if you sand back the spots you may be able to see the extent of your problem. Good spray painters can colour match to a faded cars paint,,,despite what some might tell ya.

well i dinged dads mini a little while back, and his car is insured, so he shopped around and had someone fix it and respray the panel for $200.

im assuming if you just shop around and get quotes u'll eventually find someone who will cut out the rust and fix it up and then respray the panel for about 200-400 (depending on if u get mates rates or get ripped off...)

Yeah its down near the bottom and the inside is pretty rusty, that's what I'm dreading. Colour matching shouldn't be a real drama, it was only re-sprayed 2 - 2.5 years ago and I polish it at least once a month (as often as once a fortnight). It still looks like its just been painted.

I've just been out and whipped the door card off. The inside of the door looks fine (still has all original paint on it, no rust at all) but behind the little lip, right at the bottom where you can't see, I stuck my fingers and it was all rough, certainly felt like rust. That's why I guess I'm so surprised to find it, I thought the doors were pretty good (I know water runs down and sits there but I thought the inside of the door would be a little more corroded - how deciving.

<EDIT> Thanks for all your help guys, add that to the list of things to do....

i have just had a door bead blasted and re-sprayed. I spent the past two days putting it all back together. What a nightmare. Bead blasting $50 respray and dent removal $350 thats the easy part. having to completly strip the door and put it all back together again is the challenge. Bead blasting is a good idea to rid the whole door of any rust. I'd appreciate other peoples comments and ideas as I have to do the other door soon.
