Post subject:  painting carbies?

I have stripped a set of HS2's and fully rebuilt then, including wire wheeling and cleaning them to the point where they are better than new.

I had a thought.....and that was giving them a lick of clear coat to preserve their bling condition.

Has anyone done this before? Does it stick well and stay on, or does it go off over time and peel?

I would imagine that clear would turn to crap, it always does!
Don't do what a friend in the states did, she got her carbies powder coated. They looked great but the heat from the oven distorts the carbies! They never worked again.

He had a Dellorto 45, some dill had painted it white, so he decided to use paint stripper... with it in bits. What a mess....
Dunno if it'll ever go again..

You could take the lazy man's way out. Just buy some covers for them  , I have seen them on eBay in different sizes. They look good and you can get them in anodized silver, red, and blue, slip them ova the top and know one will know...

Yup you can paint them.... No worries at all. Clear on its own will not stick however you need to use a etch primer... Or a adhesive promotor... It can be done however. 2Pac is quite good when it comes to heat. You can even paint engine blocks in it..

PM me I will do my best to help you out

Don't bother with single pack clear spray, it just peels off.
Been there :x

just polish them and spray with a clear rust preventitive oily substance of some sort to keep them looking new(concourse GT im guessing?) silicone spray would do the job :)

Anton yes I know of a heat resistant clear coat you can use...No I have not tried it yet..let me know if oyu want a contact.
I don't think wire wheeling will be a good surface as its more polished and won't stick and may flake off..you may need some wet and dry on it
