Post subject:  How to remove the chrome door surounds

Hi all, need to remove some chrome door strips from one door and put onto another. These are the strips that go over the top of the door windows. Is there a way to remove them without denting or bending them out of shape? They seem very dificult to remove.
Thanks for your info....

I too tried prying them off but they twisted etc. My panel beater had a bit of a laugh and then showed me another way. A piece of timber and a BFH. Sit the edge of the timber block against the lip of the chrome strip at one end and give it a whack. Keep doing this all the way along and it should pop off eventually and still be in exactly the same shape as it was on the car. I was most impressed as they were in excellent condition and all they need now is a bit of a shine before going back on.

are we talking sliding window or winding window chrome surrounds?

winding window chrome surrounds, thought they were both the same, but could be wrong. Never the less, just want to know how to remove them without the kinks/ bends/ warps or any other undescribed awful event.

I did try some wood and carefully try tap it off all the way around, but it is quite stuborn. I sprayed the whole suround with wd40 to help any bits that might be sticking, but when I get close to one bit of the chrome coming clear of the lip, it just springs back into place. I then tried to put something in the end one the chrome was shifting over the lip, but any more of this and I feel this perfect piece of chrome might bend slightly. There must be another way? :?

ive just removed them myself, using a small block of wood with a 30 degree angle and punched it upwards with a rubber mallet - comes off like a charm and no damage what so ever

wd40 helps alot - and its easier to start from the ends and do the middle last so you can get a screew driver underneath

collins, are currently doing a resto? you seem to be asking a lot of questions that i also have!! ha ha

Ed is going through something like that, He has nearly new everything. I have had very good prices on all the bits needed to complete his rebuild jouney. Doing all the work myself certainly makes for a cheap rebuild. Spraypainting/mechanical/welding/upholstering etc....
