In that case then just tell them it's for a mini , other cars have the same diameter shaft but different pitch splines .

For those with the devious bent, a vernier is an accurate measuring instument and the shaft diameter in metric terms is 22mm.

PS. Having re-read the thread, I see that the size you are really after is the spline end so I have just measured again and it is 18mm. If a boss kit is all you need, the firm you are dealing with should have the nous to supply you with the correct one. I had no trouble in getting one from autobarn.
