I have put a new generator in my 850/998 as i was running on battery. Had to recharge the battery.
Since having done all of that it now indicates a discharge which increases with RPM. Whats going on. Cheap shitty gauge?? The battery certainly isnt discharging

If it's an ammeter not voltmeter, the wires are back to front.

Another possibility (if not charging) is the car is now opposite polarity to what the generator was set to.
You may need to repolarise the generator:
With motor stopped and ignition off-
1. Remove cover from voltage regulator.
2. Using a screwdriver, push the main cutout closed for a second or 2, then pry it open again.
3. refit cover.
