Does anyone have pictures of clubmans with vinyl decals on the roof? i.e checkered, union jack etc

You struck an apparant wall of silence here. I think the full roof decals are very expensive for what they are.

Also, like vinyl roofs of a few years back, they trap moisture, dont breathe and often you end up with a roof full of rust.

I think there are enough clever spray painters out there to paint what ever you want on the roof and do it properly.

I know you only asked for photos, however, I think the vinyl roofs in Australia are very rare and i read between the lines.

Your very right there about vinyl's not breathing and trapping moisture. Stear clear of doing that to your car, you could end up with a worse problemn of a rusty hood than you would imagine. Try find someone that will spray whatever you want on your roof, it will be far superior and last as long as the rest of the paint job. Being a custom painter myself, I have airbrushed a few hoods for myself. My best was turning my roof into a joker from a playing card, he was sitting cross legged and juggling joker above his head, only 4 colours were used, but it was very affective. To do the job properly, think of something you would like, sketch it up and take it to a vinyl cutter to get a quote on cutting a big mask for you, then it is a matter of fishing the bits out that you want to see on the roof and airbrush away. It would take a weekend to do a good job with 2 coats of cear over base colours. This is how to do it professionally...

If you would all like, I can do an instructional movie on custom paint work on the mini's. Just have to get myself the round nose then I will be set to work away at what I do best. I will do a roof design also.....

lol, not anymore i don't think, That was about 8 yrs ago, and have since lived in 5 different countries. I have a few pictures of my mini's, but for some reason I don't have a pic of my mini with the joker. All I can say is that it was a real eye catcher. Now all you have to do is think of something you would like to see on your roof, sketch it and get a quote on a mask to be laser cut for you........

have a look at the two UK Mini magazines....there are usually adverts for roof decals in them.

in doing that, you will end up having something on your roof that won't be unique to only your car. Get you imagination running wild and see what you come up with. The easy option is to do what 9YaTaH said, just have a look at what decals there are out there.

sorry to dig this up, but vinyls dont make the car rust any quicker by having them on. Vinyl is very breathable, especially good cast vinyls. Easier to remove if you are bored with it too than painting.

True and not true chopchop... New vinyl's are breathable, but they also do trap moisture. It doesn't take long before the pores close from car cleaners with wax aditives. Vinyl on a horizontal plane will suck moisture through the tiniest scratch, and trap it there, especially if you live in a sub tropical region such as Queensland or up in the north where humidity and the "muggy" is very high. Vinyls on the vertical seem to disipate the moisture quicker, and hence less problems. When I say less problems, I don't mean clompletely problem free.

Gee - even in country areas, I have seen enough cars that had vinyl roof applications totally rusted out under the vinyl to be wary.

Yes - these are the seventies and eighties fashion statement vinyl roof, not a decal, but similar cars without vinyl roofs did not rust in the same way.

I am simply very very wary.

The Vinyl roof in the seventies is not the same as the vinyl they use nowadays, but
I'm pretty sure you are aware of that. The vinyl then was a disaster, it had a fabric base which was like a sponge in the ocean. But similarly goes, say no to vinyl.

I think everyone is confusing:
*VINYL As in upholstery vinyl
with
*VINYL As in cast adhesive vinyls used by the sign industry to do signage & vehicle wraps. I have removed vinyl (cast vinyl) from vehicles after 10 years & the paint under the vinyl is as new, unlike the faded chipped uncovered paint.
Anyway, just my humble opinion (gained from 22 years in the sign & graphic industry).
It is very hard to beat the finish & look of a 'good' airbrush or paint job, but at the same time very hard to beat a 'good' vinyl job for speed & the ability to easily remove/change it in the future.
Note 'good' is the underlying factor in both methods.
