I'm just curious to know which type of fuel pumps everybody is using. My fuel pump is next in line for a rebuild. Please mention your basic engine specs. |

I got a 3psi Facet fuel pump, does the job on my engine, which is a pretty stock S motor. I bought myself supercharger which will go in when I can afford to pay for the kit, and still I reckon the 3 psi pump wil lbe fine, if not I'll try a 6psi facet pump that I used to use on my car, don't think it effected the carbies but I have read that SU's don't like more than 2-4 psi. Cooper S stock was rated with a 3psi SU fuel pump. |

Same as above, no regulator. Single HIF6 on 1275 motor with dyno results posted somewhere... EDIT: I forgot I modified the Facet. Standard return spring in the guts was too strong and the pump wouldn't self prime above the fuel level. I found a spring of suitable diameter and pit it in and now she pulses slower but will self prime. M |

There is a big difference between pressure and volume. With carbies you don't need much pressure but you may need a larger volume. |

I have the same as slinkey. 3psi solid state facet. I run a 1310 A+, 12g940 unleaded head ported polished, kent 286 cam, omega dished pistons, 45dcoe weber on medium manifold. Its a pretty thirsty motor but the facet copes more that adequatly, I have a purolator fuel regulator just near the carby to keep things nice and smooth. |

3psi Facet/Purolator/TRW, (all same really) both cars. 1293 and 1360. Mount it on a Mini square exhaust mount, it really shuts it up. ![]() Mokesta, these pumps are really meant to be mounted below fuel level, this will ensure freedom from vapour lock in hot weather too. Worst place to put a pump is up on the firewall, where Morris Minors had it. ![]() |

Agreed Doc but on a moke it's no easy task to run a line from the tank compartment to the rear subby and then forward again. My alloy tank has a pump mount inside which currently holds an EFI pump. The Facet was just there until I finished the EFI manifold and swapped over. Unfortunately the EFI computer $ stopped that project for a while so I've got a less than optimal pump location. Next time I'm bored, out comes the tank and in goes an in-tank low pressure pump. The facet paperwork says it is capable of priming up to 12 inches of inlet head difference, but it actually couldn't. |

People do seem to spend a lot of time worrying about fuel volume - if you take the crappiest old 'lectric fuel pump there is (mine for example!) and pump into a jar instead of your carb, you'll see one hell of a lot of fuel in just a few seconds. If your engine is using that much A) you'll have a range of about 4 miles and B) it's poked So yes, worry about correct pressure, not volume. |

VL commodore 044 on EFI. Want to make a surge tank and put an in-tank walbro type, currently using diesel fuel filter (about 600cc) as surge tank! Daniel |

On Skippy (now W33VAN) I used a Mazda 929 fuel pump that looked like a Facet. Cost me $2 at a garage sale. On the Auto-Moke I have a 6psi Facet. Too much pressure. I need to change pump or fit a regulator. Or I could fit a return line, as the HIF38 I have not fitted yet has the return line outlet. But taking out the Moke tank and brazing in a return line fitting doesn't bear thinking about! Cheers, |

On a 1310 motor with a modded 12G940 head and MG Metro cam, with a HIF44, I have the standard diaphragm fuel pump. Doesn't seem to be a problem as the motor currently pulls 7,000 rpm in all four gears. I have the luxury of country roads where I can rev it out on occasions. |
