ok so the cars trying to turn over its getting fuel but it wont turn over... although it has turned over... |

Mechanical pumps can take a while to draw the fuel up when they have been disconnected , is it the pump from your old motor or the new motors pump ? Prime the carby float bowl up with some fuel (undo the three screws on the float bowl and fill it with petrol , put the cover back on and screw it on properly then try and start the mini) . There should be enough fuel in the bowl to run the motor till the pump catches up . Does anyone know for sure if the rover engine pumps work in the same direction as the earlier ones ? Hate to think 666 is trying to draw fuel out of the carby and pump it back to the tank ... |

id assume its the right way... ill fill up the bowl as i just took off the cap(dry as a bone) and the bottom of it had dirt in it...  ... any sugestions as to how to get the dirt out ?.. im a fair way away from any vacuum cleaner... ... its another fuel pump.. i took the one off the engine as it had a snapped outlet spout...

Put a thin smear of grease on your finger and wipe the dirt , it will stick to the grease on your finger . Do this a few times with fresh grease , then wipe it with a rag on your finger that you dipped in petrol to make sure it's clean . Even if there is a smidgen of grease left on there it will clean off when the carb has petrol running through it and burn through the motor but the amount left won't even cause a puff of smoke . |

ok cleaned as much as i could out... im pretty sure its getting fuel now... i fiddles with the distributor (i have no idea bout the angles...) then i got it started for a bit... once i stopped it i couldnt get it to start again (might have ran out of fuel) i have to get a new hose clamp for the top radiator hose as well as a water gallery spout gasket.. so ill be back soon... |

I swear by "start ya bastard" A couple of squirts will tell you if the engine is going to fire or you have some other problem. Also if its like a prime situation that 666 has then the engine will start and run for a few seconds. Do this a couple of times and the pump catches up. Raw fuel down the throat (and in the fuel bowl) can cause wet plugs etc when you are dealing with an unknown quantity like a motor you have not yet run. Like I said - a squirt of "Start Ya" tells you a lot of things and once you hear the engine firing then you know your on the right track. |

Basically it's a fun version of aerostart with a groovier can by a different company . I've still got the old can of aerostart I used to use on the Dozer when it didn't like winter starts but am thinking of a can of start ya bastard for curiosity sake in the garage ... |

yeah i have some aerostart at my mums my tennis ball launcher  ... the car is getting fuel now.. but it still wont start.. im going to swtich the battery again and see if that makes a difference...

Did you say earlier that you've moved the dizzy ? If so move it back to where it was and try again . Also , take the rocker cover off and wind the motor over by hand till the rockers/valves on cylinder 4 have both just stopped moving (exhaust has closed from exhausting gas , inlet just about to open) and that will be close to top dead center for cylinder 1 , rotate the dizzy with the cap off till the points just open in the position for cylinder 1 and that should be close enough to get a start , then fine tune later when it's running . |

beanie at brickworx said to do virtually the same thing... he said turn the dizzy anti clockwise till the points open then leave it there... ive tried that... and it just wont turn over... i tried more petty down the spout(only a tad) im giving up for the time being ill try again 2moro... appart from that evrytihng is fine with it |
