I bought a secondhand VH44 booster for the Mini and need a overhaul kit for it . Repco have quoted be $150 for the kit or $220 for a change over. If I spend that much money I may as well go the change over. Does anyone know of a cheaper source of kits? or is that price about right?

I did a MK1 S booster and it was $270 for the kit... and that was cheap

I have just done the same thing through repco. I ended up going the reco changeover option. I ended up getting a really nicely recoed unit in exchange for a really bad one.

I did a bit of research on the net and found that all the companies around australia were pretty comparable to repco most were dearer.

what i would suggest to anyone is to try and buy a VH44 unit that has absolutly had it and is therefore cheap to buy and then go the reco changeover option. If your unit is fairly good already I would try and get another worse one and then reco that one, sell the good one as they are getting really good money on ebay.

my thought was that for the extra cost of the changeover service i was happy to have peice of mind that it was done properly.

Sounds like reasonable advice - only difference is I got a good unit cheap

only paid $66 with postage. Saw some absolutely shockers at the swap meet last week for $100

Anyway Repco said recos were $300 something but as he had one on the shelf he would let me have it for $220. - think I'll take it

wombat $220 did sound cheap, Come to think of it I think i paid $270 for my repco reco, but i was charged the trade price.

A brake place in Mascot (Sydney) quoted me $180 for a major kit or $220 for a reco unit exchange.

Hardly worth the effort isn't it. Somewhere I have a couple of Repco vouchers that were going out with rego renewals offering 20% off any purchase. I'll have to read the fine print probably won't apply to the reco unit at discount price but will have to see if it will apply to "buy in" items and he said the kit will have to be brought in. Now $120 is $100 difference and that is getting better

There used to be two different booster repair kits for the VH44. There was the major repair kit (BMC number HYL8123) and the minor repair kit (BMC number HYL8124)
The difference is supposed to be just the big diaphram but it may be the small diaphram as well.
If your diaphrams are OK you can save a bit of money with the minor kit.
The last time I priced the minor kit it was about $40 but it is probably $80 now!

i got my repco rebuild kit for $80. perks of having my mechanics license i suppose.

Unit arrived in the post today and I've stripped down. I'd say it was a recod unit not so long ago. All rubbers are in good nick and unit is clean inside. little bit of surface rust under large chamber joining strap other than that good as new Don't think it will need a kit after all

If it looks Ok give it a go.
One little thing to check is the tiny piston under the control valve, they sometimes are stuck and then the booster won't boost.
