Unknown , it's a Victorian police stamped number , they would put that on when the original number has been ground off or not visuble for whatever reason . is there a rivet hole either side of the number ?

Are you going to get some photos of this vehicle on the interwebs?

Basically by pulling the head off and measuring the bore , some casting marks will give you an idea but it's likely to be a UK import motor , several I've seen have had the engine number stamped on a tin plate that's then rivetted onto the block in the normal engine number location . Australian authorities won't accept a removable engine number so the plate gets removed and a police number stamped in it's place . Not a lot of help to people really as you have little idea of the engines size . What casting number is the head ?

Is that on the outside of the head or under the rocker cover ? If the vans 78 then someone could have just got the vans pollution head and put it on a short motor rather than rebuild the original motor . Is it an A or A+ motor , is the dizzy held on by a forked clamp with one bolt or by the normal clamp your other mini's motors would have ?

So your K has an A+ motor ?? the dizzy clamp on an A+ is sort of like a "fat Y" and held onto the motor by a single bolt near the bottom of the Y .

Is that the vans original motor ? It looks the right type for a 78 van (Ley-Mini Van E.P.A.I. according to the old mini car clinic catalogue , E.P.A.I. I'm guessing is an environmental Protection etc suffix for a smog motor ???) .

Gee - minis in 78 - who knows what they came out of the factory with. By then the factory was suffering severe angina and they were using up what ever they had lying around.

My mini clubman S 1978 came out of the factory with a 1100 motor (numbers matched) when all minis (excepting 1275 LSs) were supposed to be 998s.

You even hear stories about drum braked 1275s because they had the bits lying around.
