hi all,
i also got defected 2 weeks ago in St Kilda Melbourne.
They got me for:
Too low
Clear Tail lights
Non Padded steering wheel (Momo style)
not having any water in my washers
Driving lights because they dont have a seperate switch.

They gave me a $170 fine. I took took the mini to get a RWC and it passed the only thing that i did was wash the oil off the engine and put water in the washers!!!!!! Do the cops have any idea at all????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, I don't have a window washer setup at all in my car! Besides the chrome jets, of course, coz they're all shiny like

I've been very careful driving round of late, I have the spare wheel on coz one tyre was bald from wheelspin around roundabouts. Rotated the tyres and now the front left is almost bald again :) I've got four new tyres in the garage, just haven't got around to putting them on!

I'm more concerned by the smoke screen from the exhaust, that's much more noticable to the average copper!

Anto.

That's a bit odd. I live around the st. kilda area and have been driving my moke around for years. It's far from roadworthy.. haven't had any problems yet :).

If the car passed a RWC, take it through the courts man. Cops hate that crap, so much paper work and time wasting for them. If you can prove that its roadworthy you will have a good chance of getting off. Maybe even get a statement from your mechanic. Its worth a shot.

I too don't have any sort of washer equipment, no bottle, no button, just 2 nice looking jets

If you are driving and see cops, just run as quiet as possible (ie. might defect me for the intake noise on the dellorto  ) and smile while waving and looking as innocent as possible

i am going to write a "nice" letter to the police and try to get out of it that way first, if that doesnt work ill take them to court!!!!!!!!!!

The funny bit is that they didnt get me for the big sticker accross the window which isnt RWC because it is within the wiper area!!!! lol

They dont know S H ! T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, that's rough. I mean, the one person I know who used the washer jets was my aunt, who turned them round to squirt pedestrians...

Tow tips: take them to court - it takes a copper out of action for a while, maybe making them less likely to be so picky (None of those items are safety related really IMHO),

and two, say when you get booked "It's a fair cop, guv'nor - you got me bang to rights" because it sounds so funny when the policeman has to read it out in court...

I haven't had a lot of contact with police in NZ for a while, but they're not nearly so rough on basically honest folk.

cops can yellow you for having no water in your washer bottle.. so technically even without the other crap they still had a valid reason for doing you

you will never win

Yes but No. i got a major which is more then 3 offences. a minor which is less then 3 comes without a fine, its more a formal worning.
The thing that sh!ts me also is that it also costed me $80 for a RWC n i had to take time off work to get it done!!
if it was a fair defect like a cracked window or non RWC tyres i wouldnt have a problem, but comon they need to get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just trying to figure out what is wrong with clear tail lights.

As long as they light up in the correct colour, I dont see how you could be booked at all.

Check out what colour the tail lights, and indicators are on the cop car, next time they try that on ya.

the reason there wrong is that they have no reflectors.

Right about the time you were getting your defect, not far from there some low life was probably selling some young kid his first smac hit in broad daylight, but hey your clear lenses are much more of a danger.

What a load of Hooey, they expect someone to notice a reflector an inch square but completely ignore a 650 Kilo car, in front of them????

I just noticed the defect about the steering wheel, last I heard the steering wheel you are replacing the ORIGINAL with must have the same type or better padding that the ORIGINAL. I thought the original's were bloody hard plastic. As long as ya have a collapsing boss it should be alright too.

Sorry PhildoD - tell they to the bloke that has just plowed up the backside of your car parked out in a dark street - I'm sure he'll happily just shell out the couple grand repair bill and say it was all his fault because you didn't have any rear refectors fitted.
