Post subject:  What's it worth? Morris Van

I’ve had the thoughts of leaving my mini project and dealing with minis in a year or two when hopefully time and money won’t hinder progress.

I’m just wondering, how much are vans are worth these days? More specifically this one! As it is now, and if it was finished and passed rego a check?

Currently it has an 1100 that appears to run fine.
90% of the car was taken to bare metal.
Due to working outside, it had to be painted fast – so it has some coats of acrylic on it and some clear.
It is a mini, and it did have rust. This has been cut, plated and migged - safe, sound and fine for rego - but nowhere near concourse!

The body has some bog in two spots, below the right side tail light (photo) and infront of the drivers wheel arch. These bits need a good sand and then prime / paint.
The doors are painted with no clear, need some little dints filled and then paint. These were not stripped and should have been.

I have sanded and polished one spot on the roof and it came up alright – this paintjob was to last a couple of years and then fully restore the car. But, a few hours sanding, maybe some more clear and then buffing and it would look good.

The car is complete, just needs to be finished and put back together. It had a rear seat fitted but the previous owner threw it out :( . It was registered as a wagon with the seat. I have a pajero seat that will fit well.

I want to hear that as is it’s not worth much, and to keep it and fix it. But at the same time I need a presentable car for work asap (I was going to get sign writing etc on the van). So that’s about it, I’m finding it hard to spend the time to get it looking good and due to work it has to look good or don’t bother. I’m thinking of getting a late 90’s Magna.

So what’s it worth as it, and what’s it worth on the road without rego? It’s not for sale, I don’t want to sell it, but it may be depending. Thanks, Tom.

Sorry, the bog is infront of the rear wheel arch, and the white bits in the photos are tape (spots that need a little love)

Tom , I'll be around to smack some sense into you if you keep talking about selling the van .... It's the perfect sales gimick for the buisiness , mini sized fees etc , plus the fact that with commisions so low that's all you can afford .

Good photo of Nic in the avatar by the way .

Don't sell the van! I get so many looks in my mini, more than my dad does in his GTS (big rims, body kit, V8 with performance mods). A magna will just blend in with every other unimaginative car on the road - keep the van!

Some sense smacking is what I need! Work will die down over Chrissy for a few weeks and I should be able to get it all done, but as you can see - not allot more has been done :(

Tell me it's worth $500 and I'll keep it. I was more looking to solve the problem for moment. If work goes well - I'll find someones starlet van conversion and skip the hard yards. If it doesn't, I'll be searching for a smoky mini as our main transport :D .

I think it's easy to get stuck halfway - a rusty bare shell or a complete mini sounds more appealing at the moment. I'll spend a few days on it and see how it goes.

I'll be around with the big stick .....

Seriously though , if you sell it when it's this close to being finished you'll regret it later . You've moved house and done other things while trying to finish it so you can expect it to be dragging on a bit , if it makes you feel any better I'll take it off your hands for $250 .

I'll go $255 - and if you say "stuff em - I will finish it myself rather than give it away" then good but $255 is my top offer.

From your description it should be at least $1k, probably closer to $2k. The trouble is that a van is not to everybody's taste, so finding a buyer when you want one would be difficult.
Personally, I'd love a van, but have made a firm decision that the next Mini I get will be a 1965 model (my birth year) so I'm really restricted as to what I can buy.
