We changed over out 62 beetle from 6v candle power to 12v alternator a few years back, and from memory it wasn't too big a job. I haven't done a mini conversion, but I can't imagine it would be too dificult.
I have put a link here for the conversion of the MGA which I think is very similar in that the wiring should be more or less the same colours. See how you go...

This is the same as converting from postive to negative earth, but with adding an alternator, do a search it'll be on here somewhere, I did it. Easy, no problems what so ever! So to make it harder I put a Pulsar alternator for more ommph  . Just rewire everything opposite (as polarity would now be changed) and your good to go!

Yep real easy job - do a search (as already said on here) for specific instruction as to whaty wires join with what - plenty of info.

As also said on here - change the battery leads from positive to earth to negative to earth and also change the polarity setting on any radio, stereo or tacho you may have before you turn the ignition key.

The change over is 15mins work regardless of if the engine is in the car or out. many people simply leave the voltage regulator where it is and some even attach dummy wires to retain that authentic look but others take it out to give a cleaner engine bay look. Your choice.

you will need:
1. alternator
2. bracket (because alternator is shorter)
3. and that knowledge stuff that everyone else is going on about

i got my alternator and bracket from Seven Hills, $135 + $11 i think
