Pragmatic solution I hear is shove a steel rod in the pipe, hit it and break the strainer.
You would use a decent filter in the pump's suction line anyway..

I've read about all the suggestions for rusty fuel tanks to shake them with gravel (or some other abrasive substance) and then use a sealing kit. However, looking at my twin tanks, I have a problem. Each tank has a fuel filter inside attached to the tubing that exits the tank. With the left-hand tank, I can see how I might get to this fuel filter by removing the fuel tank sender (which I would have to do anyway if I were to seal it). However, how would I remove the filter in the right-hand tank? There's no way to get inside of it. To top it off, there's a small tab welded at the end of the fuel filter in the right-hand tank to prevent it from falling off, so I can't even use a contraption to loosen it and remove it through the fuel filler hole. It appears to me that I would probably have to undo the welding and separate the tank back into two pieces. I cannot believe that I would be the only person to have this problem, but then again all past rusty fuel tank threads do not mention any of these pesky fuel filters. The optimist in me thinks there must be some insanely novel way to solve this problem, but the pragmatist in me shudders to think what the answer may be. Merrick |
