Post subject:  Problem's with fitting a quickshift to a rod change gear box

hi, i just got a quick shift and the problem which i'm having is that the quick shift unit will not set all the way down into the rod change unit. it's only a few milameters of but i carn't get it to slid into position. are there any tricks which can heap me install it easyer. the lift pin at the bottom of the quickshifter doesn't seem to be connected to anything. is it meant to be connected to something. i think the rod change unit is australian so could this be the reason.
need help as soon as possible.
thanks

its because the australian rod change casting has a slightly wider top then the british ones for which the quickshift is designed.. if you grind a little out of the inside of the bell shaped part of the quickshift it should go on fine

Meeni that is bullshit.

It's bad design on the maufacturers behalf.

Filing around the top of the rod change unit will see the new bit that slips over it fit with a little bit of persuasion from a plastic faced hammer.

Be gentle and don't force it.

Them are some strong statements willy - but it seems most stuff meeni says fits the write up. It seems everyone complains about the fit on specificaly the Minispares UK brand of quickshift. I had one a few years back when I still had a rod change and it didnt fit straight away either.

I reckon it'd be much easier to file the inside of the quckshift bell (its made of soft alloy and even sandpaper will take it, than around the (steel I believe) rodchange housing. It shoud fit over the housing tightly but you don't want to bang it too hard, instead remove a bit more thickness from the inside of the bell as if its too tight removing the unit if you decide so in the future would be a nightmare.
