haha i dont think i'd trust that tow bar with the weight of the trailor. Does the moke have wiring for the trailor?? I think the prado in the back ground would be a better option. |

What is the trailer , is it a dual axle car trailer or a lighter single axle trailer ? I've reinforced my mokes towbar with some old grader blade cutting edge steel so it's strong and has towed some pretty heavy box trailers but not a car trailer . The thing to consider is the brakes on your moke and the brakes on the trailer if it has any . You've put a lot of work into the van so far and don't want to stuff it from trying to get a good photo of it behind the moke . The bare van shell on a light trailer would be most likely alright if the tow bar on the moke is up to it but any heavier trailer then I doubt it . |

Physically possible? Single axle, yes; tandem (like most hire trailers at service stations) no. Plenty of stories of minivans being used to tow race cars in the old days. Legally? Almost definitely not. You are doubling the amount of weight that the braking system is expected to stop. A bare shell on a single axle 8x5 is probably under 500kg, but most single axle trailers don't have brakes. My single axle tilt trailer weighs 300kg, the average 12- 13' dual axle trailer would be 500kg+ at a guess. Newer cars have maximum rated towing capacities, I'm not sure hat the case is with older cars. |

definitely not recommended - you will possibly end up with the tail wagging the dog, apart from the issues regarding braking distances which have already been raised. |

what is the towing capacity of a moke though. i want to get a small boat. Its about 300kgs. Would my moke tow it..?? |

i saw a guy in sydney towing a 16ft boat on a dual axel trailer behind a moke. so i followed him. and when he pull over and i followed him he thought somthing was wrong. but i told him i was a mini owner and just want to see what the hell he had done. it was a custom boat trailer he build just tow with the moke so it was all balance and stuff and he had fitted electric brakes adn the moke had full custom rear subframe with the tow bar all braced the the back. it looked like a lot of work but it was all cool and it turns heads. i should have asked how he puts it in the water.

We used to tow a 14 foot aluminium boat with 20 hp motor around with a mini van and tired 850 motor , used to drag it up a steep dirt track from the ramp to the road as well . It was pretty much flat out at 90 on the highway but handled it well . I've had some pretty heavy trailers behind my Moke Californian as well , they tow things well , just watch your guages as they tend to heat up on hills quicker ... |
