Telstra Bigpond have been refusing me the right to view Ausmini..... Ive not been able to access Ausmini since last week.... Thought the site must have been down, but i got a chance to try it out at work and Ausmini works fine. I tried it on a mates PC, and all was good. Tried my pc and my gf's pc at my joint but still no go. So i tried my mums pc who is also with telstra n she couldnt access it either. So I rang Telstra Bigpond Tech Support and they were also unable to access the Ausmini.com site!!!! So apparently they are gunna try n solve the problem! C*nts! Been having withdrawl symptons. |

poeee says that (and i quote) "telstra DNS servers are bollocks (make sure you say bollocks)! They take so long to update. It's a ramification of the servers being down on the weekend, but the ISP DNS server should update instantly" Ok. Now all i need is a translator... poeee edit/ you can get to ausmini by going straight to the ausmini IP address 61.14.187.197. To get to the forums go to http://61.14.187.197/~ausmini/forums/ however, you may or may not have problems with the forums (if you get a link sending you to www.ausmini.com/forums/xxx then you may have problems). |

In brief DNS is: The Domain Name System (acronymm DNS) is a distributed internet directory service. It's function is to translate a domain into an IP address. DNS is used for everything that's related to communicating with a web address be it email, browsing, FTP etc. So if DNS fails for some reason all activities on the internet would come to a standstill. Telstra DNS (which translates ausmini.com into a unique IP address for people using Telstra as their ISP) is flakey at the best of times and in my job (IT manager for a well known Australian boot & clothing company) we regularly encounter issues with Telstra DNS and need to work around or modify our firewall to accomodate such problems. /Tim |

Thanks for the IP info poeee. Info for all you Bigpond users:- there's a file in your C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc folder called HOSTS. Edit this file with notepad (or get someone to do it for ya if not sure) and add the line 61.14.187.197 ausmini.com to the bottom of the file. Ensure there's at least one space between the 7 and the a. Your machine will consult this file for the ausmini address. Here's what the file looks like after editing: # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host 127.0.0.1 localhost 61.14.187.197 ausmini.com |

Thanks Oscar / Rod, I can now get on Ausmini at home but I get a cannot find page error when I log on. If I hit "back" and then enter Ausmini as if I were a guest, shazam, I'm logged in. Weird! M |

I'm with optus but since the other day when it fell over I've had a funny problem logging in. When I type in "DOZ" I then hit the 'tab' key to go to the password box but it goes backwards to the last registered user on the users online bit. So now I type is "DOZ" then I have to mouse click the password box. I know I could use the always logged in but this is not my puter. It doesn't happen on the other forums I use that are the same phpBB Group ?? ![]() Daniel |

I'm on Bugpond and I still can't find the URL - I was thinking the server had gone down again. I 've managed to get around it by logging onto my work's VPN from home, and then accessing it that way. |
