Post subject: | 850 exhaust bracket |
I was just trying to fit the new exhaust to the 850, an i am having trouble with the bracket that bolts to the gearbox. ![]() All you people with an 850 can you tell me if the engine pipe bracket mounts underneath the gearbox lug, on top of the lug, or is there another bracket that allows it to sit beside the lug? Any way i try it something at one end or other does not line up. photos would be GREAT thanks mcihael |

Hey it's on;y been 38 years since I had one, but.. The proper 850 pipe has a bracket welded to it that goes UNDER the lug on the gearbox. One of the tricks was getting it tight in the top joint, and getting the bracket close to the lug. Washers may be needed.... ![]() |

Thanks dr i have engine pipe with bracket welded on, but when i tried it as you suggested i could not get the bracket to go under the lug and make it mate at the manifold. This is the distance between the manifold and the bottom of the lug [---------------] [--------------] is the distance from the bracket on the pipe to the flare...... i'll have to tighten it at the top, and kind of lever the bracket under the lug i guess. Not sure how the washers would help in this case. if the diagram was the reverse it would help michael |

I know what you mean. You could cut the pipe off below the flange, weld a repair section on there carefully, to get the length right. If they still make them.... ![]() Or go buy a new 850 pipe... or cut the bracket off the old one and move it a bit, then weld on again (messy...) |
