Hey guys.

As i save up for a beloved mini, i keep looking for different ways in getting my pride and joy.

Anyway, today i was looking at ebay (as usual) and decided to check what mini's are available in the UK. I have found out there are heaps (no doubt!).

My question is, how do you go about importing a mini? Does anyone have any links on importing vehicles? i remember reading once something about a '15 year' rule in which cars have to be <15 years old to import, does this still apply?

Is it worth looking on ebay (uk) or getting a jap import (rover) when looking for a mini?

Cheers guys!

Cars in the UK:
Don't waste your time or money. Cars in the UK last 2 years before they rust.
A cheap car from the UK plus the costs of getting it here, then replacing all the panels would cost you a gold mine.
Eg, a 7000 pound sportspack cooper delivered would require about 35 grand AUD.

A few people have imported from japan and done well for themselves, but it's the result or months and months of work.

The best way into minis in this country is to buy Australian made I think.
Otherwise, give brickworx in SA a call. He'll look after you.

:D

What specifically are you looking for in a mini?
What do you like?

Edit:

Have a read: :D

Thanks for the info harley, and the link

To tell you the truth, im not exactly sure what im after.

Basically im saving at the moment and looking at my options, everything looks so good, so i'm trying to limit myself in splurging out in something.

I think my best option however is to look for an aussie car, so i think ill give up on the UK delivered car, especially after what you have said :)

I've never looked into it but I read somewhere that if you really wanted to bring a car from the UK (That is you're overthere and know exactly what you are getting) you pull all the seats out - take the engine out and put it in the back seat and the wheels in the boot and fill the rest of it with other mini bits and pieces pack it on a pallet and call the whole lot spare parts.

a late model import 998 can be had for 8-10K... easier than importing it yourself, but I prefer aussie built bricks :)

good luck in your search ;)

I import cars from the UK, if you are interested in doing it PM me and I will help you out, don't look at late rover stuff as its mostly crap and why import a 998, look for something older that may have been rebuilt and modified, if you can find a pre 1976 model it will be duty free but will incurr GST, cheapest way to ship id Roll on roll off at about 2k au , if you are interested as I said PM me and I will give you all the info for free :D

Really, you would only consider importing a car if you cannot find the same car here in Oz. If you just want a nice Mini, you can get that here, it's just not worth it.

If you specifically want something rare, like an 80's Rover Mini, Elf, Hornet, Traveller, or Ute then you'd consider importing.

Cheers,
