in the end everyone wants a van, admitt it,

now i have a clubman shell, which is what i started with, it has no rego and a dogdey loom, all the rest is there but needs to be plugged up or fixed, plus the rust

now should i just re shell everything into a van and sell the shell or keep on chuffing away at my clubman, i also need the clubby or the van to be my daily in about a month

If not finish I reckon finish the clubby. Always take the shortest path to finishing something. Too many people keep collecting junk and never finish anything.

that is very true, i have my own father show me that one, his stag is an ongoing project from 1998, his mga hasnt he daylight in 10 years or more, and the bolwel, i wasnt born when that was started last

but if i was to obtain a van shell that was running, has a decent loom in it, and hasnt much rust, i could swap the motors, discs, wheels and off to a blue slip,

the clubby i have to cut rust out, wire, discs, get the motor going, and then blue slip, its nearly the same anount of time but i dont know if my perents can sit on that

Sounds like you might be eligible to become a Gunna Do, why don't you just buy something that runs and be done with it not everyone has the luxury of time, space and the wherewithall to "do a car up"

we are in same situation with you!
but we have a van..
dunno wot to do.
bf wants to sell it...but i dont think its worth it, coz we bought it for many $$..
though that was a few years ago...
and goin to move house, so the stuff has to be moved (van, AND all the parts..many many parts..)

I think there are four classes of car fanatics.

1. The restorers - these are the people for who the joy is in the restoring - basically making a new car out of a relic. Often they lose interest in the car or just see it as an ornament once its finished.

2. The car enjoyer. Loves the car. Its a heap of metal but it gets loved and driven and is always "a gonna"

3. The well heeled enthusiast - buys a restored or good original car, pours buckets of money into it and treatsit like a petulant child.

4. The unfinished project - probably the largest class - buys a project, rips into pulling it to pieces and then it sits for decades - more classic cars in pieces in sheds than there are on the roads.

My opinion is - choose your category from thoses above and buy the car appropriate to your class.

Probably classes 2 and 4

Where's the class for the person with the ultra rare car that is constantly being told he shouldn't drive it hard and it should be restored and museumised rather than enjoyed at 6000rpm and flat-shifted ???

I can relate to 1 , 2 , and 4 in varying degrees , never been into the scene of number 3 . I'd hate to have a perfect car , mine are all well used (when on the road) but looked after and fussed over .
