According to Pedr Davis' book Mini Minor Downunder, the Californian came out in 1971. This was the first version....
`wider range of body colours, improved seats, the vinyl soft top boasted a multicoloured paisley design'.

In 1977 a special dressed up Californian came out.
It had wider Sunraysia wheels, and a rear mounted fuel tank.

Not much more info in that book re Mokes... the Moke gurus on ausmini will have more info.

BTW I don't think they ever got to California, officially.

Theres a heap of Moke info in one of the Mini Experience Magazines, issue 6?? probably available still.

As far as I know the first "californian" were sold in 71-73 as the "export moke" with 1275 and drums but the ones with the Californian sticker were released in a revamp in late 1977 until end of aussie production late 1981. First with 998's then with 1275/discs as option in 1980.

Anyway, see if you can get a copy of the ME mag and have a look or check the other websites as suggested

Daniel
