Why do Nb racers have holes drilled in the end of some (sometimes all) of their Contessa wheel nuts.

It fascinates me.
And it baffles me.

:?

heaps of contessa wheel nuts were actually made that way, you`d probly notice that they are not chrome either,,, made as a cheap version & saved the wrong length of stud causing issues too

etc etc etc

willy, it doesn`t take much to baffle you hey? :-)

Merry christmas & happy nude year

:-)

I'll have one of them! (a nude year hehe)

I would say to stop long wheel studs giving grief.

The reason is that they are easier to make that way.

Another reason is so that the scruitineer can see if the stud is all the way into the nut. When you fit spacers you lose length on the stud and if you overdo it you can end up with half a nut or less of thread holding the wheel on. Some scruits will make you pull a nut off so that they can see if the studs are long enough.

Superlight's nuts should be made this way so everybody can see the crappy length of engagement...

A bit off the topic but Drag racers must have open nuts for cars under 10.99 1/4 mile. I think this is for Morris 1100's reason, so scrutineers can see. Funny thing is I've never seen one check the threads at a drag meet.
