In my travels from Western Australia to Victoria over the last month, I regularly dropped into quiet old towns to check them out before continuing on my way to the next destination. This is good for a break, and it also gives me an idea of what it is like to live in these whistlestops. It's much more interesting than a high speed glimpse as I rocket past in air conditioned comfort, and you meet the most amazing people. It makes for an adventure instead of just a trip.
I pulled into one of these old towns for a bit of a perve when I was drawn to stare at a particular house because of it's magnificent design, it was every bit of 120 years old and it looked amazing even in it's weatherworn state. As I trundled slowly past I noticed a mini on the front porch...and then another van at the other end....and hints of other minis up the side and around the back.....
Next thing I know I was galloping accross the bitumen barefoot (The bitumen was melting as it was 47 that day, I burnt my bloody feet in the pursuit of all things mini). I walked up and rapped on the door of htis magnificent house and got to chat with a lovely couple. While my little boy played on what looked every bit like a 50's era rockinghorse and toys I trundled around and had a look at what turned out to be a two dozen mini collection! The yard was amazing and every sort of mini was represented. Most are in a condition where they need a great deal of love to bring them back, but it was amazing none the less. He showed me his favourites and we had a look around this amazing house as well (It had a built in Chapel from it's original owners). I only got a couple of photos, some may know him, others won't but he did ask not to be revealed, so I hope you will enjoy just looking at the images.
This 850 really had me looking, it was a really sweet little car. I wish I could have taken it, he has owned it from new.
