Just took the compliance plate off to 1- clean the paint off it the PO slapped all over it and 2 - to to paint the engine bay. Under tthe plate stamped into the body shell was the number 19322 but the plate has 19352 ![]() Is it meant to be 30 different or has someone stuffed up? |

850s are weird! They don't follow the normal BMC (Australia) system. ![]() |

One number may be the body number and the other may be the car number. Wombat, was the number stamped on the car behind the plate (hidden till you removed the plate) or was it stamped just next to the plate? |

The hidden number will be the body number. The number on the plate is the car number. The car number should be stamped somewhere else under the bonnet. It should the number on the rego papers. |

On my 850 it is directly below the plate and stamped into the painted firewall, not even half an inch below and the same as the car number (the second bit to the right) on the plate. Alot of shells have this area rusted due to the soundproofing and you can't see the numbers anymore unless you are at an odd angle. Daniel |

My '63 850 shell has the number stamped on the firewall alongside the plate towards the passenger side. The numbers match. |
