Happy New Year to you all. There are some jobs on the mini that perhaps you should not attempt. I ran out of patience with replacing the front wheel bearings on Ribena. The local guy is now putting them in the swivel hubs as I ran out of 'cool' the other day and was ready to bin the lot - not very smart. Anyway, he is pressing everything in to place etc and my car will be back on the road early next week - can't wait. Cheers all |

What problems were you having? Removing the swivels and shafts? |

No Mick, the swivels and shafts were no problem- the hassle was getting the inner race of each of the outer bearings off both flanges. I damaged the collar that the outer grease seal runs in so had to get two more of those to start with. Then one of the new bearings wouldn't come off the shaft that I did a test fitting - it came off eventually but I broke a brand new bearing in the process, so I thought it best to let a professional do the job. Everybody I've spoken to about this job say that you can do it yourself, but I was just getting no-where and losing patience with it - so, off to the local guy with the lot. Cheers |

Good idea if it was starting to get to you. Bearings can be difficult, they are a fine art at times, if they don't slide off and you don't have the right pullers etcetera you can really make a bodge job of it. |

Oh yes, Oh yes, Oh yes - my new front wheel bearings have stopped that noise I was on about in a previous thread called "Might This Be Wheel Bearing Noise. Huge big bags of 'thanks' to Mike Byron and Dr Mini for their input. Also to MiniBob for his practical input Just got to get my drum brakes working as well as they used to now and all will be fine.
