http://www.ozcooper.com.au/australian_m ... chures.htm if you scroll down to the matic advert near the end, there are the words: "The interior is strictly Mini Deluxe" my interior has no 3guage binnacle just the centre speedo the car has original log books and has did 30,000 miles when bought, matching numbers you can tell me the truth, it wont hurt: 1) possibility of phasing MK1-MK2 component switching (eg using only centre speedo) 2) one owner in the past didnt like the cluster so took it out - what does a 3 guage frame consist of? is it a black piece that fits neatly over the exising yellow plastic centre unit? bought in early 69 no manufacture date anywhere (including plate), speedo and wiper say 68. thanks |

I wouldn't be too concerned that it says strictly mini deluxe. I am pretty sure that they came out std with a centre binacle only anyway, it wasn't until the K's that they got the 3 guage setup. I am probably wrong. You could check by having a look at what wiring exisits behind there, if there are conectors for extra guages then it has been swapped, but i doubt it. the plastic bit is a completly different setup. you replace the plastic, nto put it over the other one. thanks aaron the set up in the engine bay seems all original no extra wires and the single yellow plastic seems like its been there the whole time if you look at Steve's "Slidey has new tacho and boot lining" (Gallery) picture if you were to swap to the 3guage, youd have to replace those two surrounding vinyl mats inside as well - too much trouble? hmmm |

I believe the first MiniMatics had Mini Deluxe speedo pod, then when the so-called MK2 MiniMatic came out (1968?) it used the Mini-K binnacle. I had 2 `matics- a `69 and a `70 and both have the 3 clock setup. ![]() |

The Mini Deluxe only had the centre speedo (in Oz spec). The three gauge Cooper style binnacle did not come on a non-Cooper until the Mini K in March 1969. So your matic is original. ![]() |
