Okay, I've had enough, I cannot get the crank pulley bolt undone. With two people, a 60cm breaker bar, etc, it just will not budge. And I am turning it the right way, lefty loosey righty tighty! But seriously, any tips? I don't value the condition of the bolt, I just want it out!

I would guess that someone has used locktite on it and it will need some effort to remove, dont be frightened to add a bit of pipe to the breaker bar as leverage is your friend :D or a rattler gun  do you still want that ring compressor, PM me if you do

Jon

Hi Jon, the only pipe I have in the garage that fits is alloy, which didn't last very long :) I may need to go and get some steel piping from Metalmart or something, I assume they won't be open until Tuesday though.
Don't worry about the ring compressor, I now have two and have managed to assemble the motor without a hickup (well, until now that is). After I convinced the compressor to compress enough for the first piston, it was quite happy to do the other three no dramas :)

After I had to get the big nut in the gear box drilled off I found out that a bit of gentil heat will soften locktite - about 250* - good luck

If it's in the car, put a socket and bar on it, lean bar against the crossmember and hit the starter... it should jar it loose.
If out of the car, put a main bearing shell in the ring gear inside the flywheel housing to lock it.
Get a decent bit of pipe on that breaker bar, 1M at least. 8)
If all else fails, it's rattle gun time.

Had the same problem Friday but with the motor out, got the big socket and rattle gun to work. Don't know I haven't employed it before, piece of cake.

Dead easy with a rattle gun - if you have one or can get a lend.

Cheers
