Post subject:  Extra Cooling

I've read of using the heater to help cooling and the extension of that using a heater matrix behind the grill.

Would an oil cooler matrix plumbed into the cooling system also work? or would you be better off cooling the oil instead?

hmm just use a matic under bonnet heater. easy to install and plumb in and 1) it adds quite a lot of water to the system 2) cools the water if the heater is on or off 3) Is really warm in winter

I have been toying with the idea of a similar return plumb back cooling system.

Something like using a pressurised system with a Range Rover filler tank feeding into the radiator then return of water from the heater outlet through a front mounted heater core plumbed back into the radiator.

I have seen a similar set up on a couple of nice blue roundies from Warwick while at the Leyburn sprints but without the additional heater core.

Appreciate any feedback/ responses if someone has done something similar.

What made me think about it was KC in Mini Experience says that by keeping the heater on it lowers the temperature at the back end of the block by 15-20* Now leaving the heater on in the UK may be OK but not sunny Queensland

Leave the heater on is easy...just a matter of takeing out the matrix's from a clubby heater and sticking it behind the front grill with the same piping...just works the same way but more fresh air

If you use a matic heater (also was optional on Deluxe and K) it's under bonnet, with heater off the air is diverted into the engine bay so the engine still gets cooled.
It's an air mixing heater- water flows all the time, but you control the air into cabin, none-cold-warm-hot.

I got myself a "i dont know what this car this came from so you can buy it cheap" heater core. It was in perfect condition, and looks jsut like an 1100 core but twice as long. That is going up-front IF this 2-care 'hi-flow' thing that came from Karcraft isn't good enough, but I think it will be. But hey why not have the extra cooling? Just give you assurance that a min can run in 40 degree heat, atm mine can't, even with a thermo fan.
