Say anyone out there know where i could get some disc brakes on the cheap?
there current drums up front just don't suit my driving style!
serious brake fade after a few speed bumps

Welcome!

Check out the massive thread on the Honda disc brake conversions over in Mini Mods. Cheaper than ya normal mini discs, and just as good, if not better!

Hey, welcome to ausmini,

Unfortunately "S" 7.5 inch brakes are not possible "on the cheap" there is a pair on Ebay right now starting bid of $1600! good lookign set though and you'll find they are all that price...

You're best bet is to get a set of contessa mags (if you haven't already got them) and do the Honda disk brake conversion (see the Mods section). This does mean that you have to put flares on the van because the wheels will stick out of the gaurds otherwise.

Either way you will probably need spaced rear drums and smaller rear wheel cylinders (otherwise the rear will lock up before your front discs will).

All up you can probably get it done for relatively "cheap" if you can find a set of honda brakes at the wreckers as most have been taken already!

Or you could get the drums working properly and save some cash for disks later.

Drums are quite good when well maintained. Most of the time "bad" drums can be fixed up by replacing any leaking wheel cylinders/hoses, replacing shoes and adjusting them properly.

I've been driving with drums every day for five years.

brake booster should be a cheaper alternative as well
you can fit four of them in the back of the van if you must

If i can get a Brake conversion out of Gareth, I'll be looking at selling My "S" Disks for a reasonable sum.....

hey paul

1. do you mind introducing yourself under: Minichat "Introduce yourselves here (again)"
its a ritual all boys and girls go through

2. honda discs:
need to be machined down to about 7.5'' (i think)
i swear there was a picture i saw recently with two discs that had freshly been machined, the diameters were reduced

3. if youre thinking of buying conversions
ask on this forum first and these fine people can answer
whether it fits or is a rip off etc.
