Post subject: | More Honda Discs!! |
Just picked me self up a set of Civic 9in discs and calipers from the wreckers, I have a set of DBA 191 ventilated/ slotted and cross drilled rotors on order, just sent the details in to the engineer to get the backing plate made up, also gettin the drive flange machined as well, once the rotors arrive they will meet the same fate, get the stud pattern re-drilled. Hoping to get an ADR approved braided brake line to suit the Honda caliper and Mini brake line. Must thank every1 who put up a technical post on the original disc brake thread, but mostly a huge thanks to DrMini!!! Over the next cupla weeks or so I hope to have it all sorted. Oh yeah by the way, got a set of standard Honda rotors I dont need, any 1 interested? Thanks... |

i thought you couldnt get vented rotors in DBA 191 i thought the best you could do was only slotted and X-drilled |

Well I was surprised to, cause the rotor is only 12mm thick, but thats what Repco have told me. They contacted DBA while I was there to place the order, so I guess Ill have to wait and see, its going to take 2 weeks for them to get here so Im assuming that DBA have to make them especially, I tried to get blanks that havnt had the stud pattern drilled but was told they wouldnt supply them like that?? |

Just get an old Mini drive flange, knock out the studs, weld the corners a bit and machine it to a neat fit inside the disc. Add a clamp plate and you've got a good drill jig.. ![]() |

Yeah, but I just thought how handy it would be if I was able to get my new rotors with the correct stud pattern. Save havin extra unused holes thats all. |

*****************************************ATTENTION***************************************************Have come across a bit of an issue with the disc brack conversion, in that even with my 12 by 5in Performance Superlite wheels the 9in disc brakes from an 84 Civic will not fit. The inner most part of the wheel, where the disc would sit is only 10inch in diam. So trying to fit a 9in rotor and caliper is impossible. The outer section of the wheel still measures 12in though. My only answer is to machine the rotor down and modify the backing plate as is if I had 10in wheels. So just be aware that even if you have 12in wheels this conversion may not go as planned. Spewin!!! |

thats a bummer!! Make sure you dont jeopardise an engineering cert by turning those discs down. I am not sure how laws differ from state to state, or what the laws are in this state to be honest, but turning the rotor down is more extensive than mounting it in almost standard form. |

Yeah its sux man, blew $100 on calipers and rotors, But mainly wanted to let others know about this little problem, Before they rush in to it, check there 12in wheels out 1st, thats what I shoulda done. Not sure bout legality issues, if I go ahead with it, wont bother bout blue plate anyway.. Cops up here know crap..... |

I finished fitting mine on Saturday. Looks f**king brilliant, and fitted A-OK. I have the Tempe Tyres 12 inch rims, which fit no probs. There is a lot involved in this conversion, so I would not advise rushing into it, as you stated Harna. |

Mini Mad's 12x5 Performance Superlites fitted over 9" Hondas Civics with NO caliper mods or spacers. They were marked `WIA' on the front. Maybe the moulds have been changed... ![]() |

I still wouldnt be able to fit a disc that size in my rim, it seems that the profile of the inside of the rim is different to other 12ins on the market. The rim is only 10in in diam at the most inner part of the rim. All four wheels are like this and they were purchased new bout 2 yrs ago. Maybe they were smokin 2 much hoochy when they designed em!!! |
