The twin 1 1/4" will run any mini engine from 850 up to standard 1275 but will most likely need needles changed to tune them to a specific motor , the seller says they were running on an 1100 but without knowing the state of tune off the 1100 it's hard to say what sort of needles they have and whether the needles will suit your 998 .

I'm not sure on price as I haven't looked at any for a while (got my own stash :D ) but I would remember they are second hand and there's always the chance they could need re-bushing etc if they are worn .

I reckon that seems a bit expensive - he does say that there is shaft movement so it could need re-bushing depending on his variation of "a bit" is.

They should be fine on your 998 (I'm running HS2's on my 998) and they should be fine on your 1100, apart from the fact (as has already been mentioned) of the needles.

Best bang for your buck mod you could do to your engine (combined with some extractors)

Hi Tait
The best place to buy SU needles is from Midel (in Sydney) whop are the australian agents for SU. You are best off buying a reco kit as well as new jets when you buy the needles.

As for what needles - thats a difficult one because so many factors affect the needle choice. Given all the engine data we can make educated guess, use WinSu or John from Midel can advise but ultimately the only way to know is to check the burn characteristics using a dyno or something like colortune.

However, having all of tail covering stuff - if YOU use needles that work in a 998 Cooper then you are not goingto be too far out. Graham could tell you whats in one of his cars.

BTW - how is the mini going. - I saw a reference you made in a post about rebuilding your motor.

That would be a good price if you could get them for that. Have seen them go for upwards of $700 without manifold and shields - particularly if a citizen of the United States wants them :?
