Hi Guys

Due to the influx of identification issues in the forum atm i though id throw my numbers in:

Its a leyland 1974 S MIni

Chasis 022A2S2M1 - Badged 'S'
Engine number 99H834Ajh012361 on engine head and
Gearbox number BC& M A/BZ 3 22G 1832

Anyone know what these numbers mean..is it a 998cc engine? (when shld be a 1098)...[If so shld i get a 1098 out the paper and stik it in to also overcome gearbox trble] AND
Also does anyone have a rough idea of wat a avg price to pay to fix the 2nd synchromesh in my gearbox..im guessing rnd a $1000...shld get some quotes though.
Cheers

Yes any engine with 99H prefix is/was originally a 998.
Might have a 1098 crank if someone's been in there- to check put a pencil in thru a plug hole, turn the engine by hand. Put 2 marks on the pencil for TDC & BDC.
If marks are 3" apart it's got a 998 crank, if 3.3" apart it's a 1098.

To rebuild a Mini gearbox properly, with all new synchros, bearings, layshaft and a comp diff pin (good idea) will cost around $750 just for the parts. So add haul it out, fix and refit you are probably right on costs.

Often the synchros (except 2nd) are good, if so at $30+ each, I'd keep them.
