Just got a few question on my Mini.

1: I am always getting petrol leak on the petrol tank neck. What do I have to do to stop the leak? I tried putting a new cap on, still no good.

2: Currently got a 998cc with an auto, whats the best thing to do to create more power without changing the engine and the gearbox.

Anyone has a late 80's model Rover Mini? If so wanna meet up?

1. Don't fill the tank all the way , mini's nearly always leak from the filler neck/cap if the tanks really full . I normally put the nozzle all the way in and only fill to the first "click" , any more and it comes out on the first right hand bend . Later mini's (like your's I think) had a flap inside the tank that was supposed to reduce the spillage but they still leaked ....

2. While not giving enormous increase of power a larger single SU or twin SU's or a weber/delorto carb and extractors will give you a bit more , reworking the head at the same time will also help things whilst keeping the original motor and not needing to take the motor out , just the head off .

Should I bore my engine to a bigger capacity? The biggest I can go is 80cc and what sort of work I should do witht the head?

I'd say only bore it larger if it's worn and has low compression (if it aint broke , don't fix it ... No point spending 3 grand or so when you don't have to) . As for the head work , it would be a good idea to get Vizards book (how to tune a mini ??? someone else can advise on the better one , I'm still using Clive Trickey's books ...) and read his reccomendations and then either have a play yourself or get someone to work the head . Basically opening out the ports and reshaping the combustion chamber to improve the airflow in and out of the motor will give you more power from standard . Bigger valves may help as well (not knowing what's on your motor at present) .

Minis need to breath. Twin 1.25 or a single 1.5 SU with a good free flow manifold - extractors and a straight though muffler (RC40 system is the best)

Simple steps will make a big difference before you go the trouble of a rebore
