Post subject:  painting rims

hey everyone, after trying to look throught the internet ive been trying to find what a good paint would be to cover some 10 inch steelies.

i was thinking maybe 2pac, acrylic with a clear coat or maybe enamal?

anyone got any ideas or advice.

yep spac ... Clean em up real good etch prime them highfill rub then paint.. Or if you dont realy car how smooth they are.. dont bother highfilling them just etch and paint..

Yep I would powder coat them after Sand /Bead or Soda blasting :wink:

I had mine powdercoated, they looked good, but it made the hubcap VERY tight to get on and nearly impossible to get off. The powdercoat is much thicker than normal paint. Good in a way, until you need to remove the wheel!!

I have since been chatting to the local spray painter, who reckons the two -pac finish is VERY durable on wheels, he has done many sets over the years, no worries with them at all.

Most important thing is preparation, get them blasted professionally first!

Something to consider is the seal of the tyre....if you get the thing too damn glassy I have heard you may have trouble forming a good seal.

just run some 360grit over the inside surfaces, takes the gloss off and you cant see it.

Yep after a sand blasting...just run the grit around the edge

hey again, thanks for the replys, im a concerned with the 2 pac idea afta finding out that it may chip easily.

yea i want a smooth surface and want to fit hubcaps. hmm i gues ill have 2 do some more research.
