It is normal for a Mini to burn oil but I wouldn't go as far to say that much is normal. I'd be checking all the gaskets, see if the sump plug loose etc... I'm not too cluely about how to prevent leakage but I'm sure you'll gfet the right advice on here there's bound to ten's of ten's of people who'll give you the right advice and expand on what I've said.

good luck

A few things to look at as well ass the condition of the engine , what sort of engine breaters do you have , any chance of them syphoning the oil out of the engine or into the manifold ? Have you done a compression test lately ? Do you park it on a concrete floor or grass , if it's on grass put a big sheet of cardboard under it and chace for leaks . Any oil dripping out the hole with the split pin through it in the bottom of the clutch housing ? What colour is your exhaust pipe ? Did you check the oil level after you had run the mini for a few minutes to allow the oil filter to fill , if you just filled it to the line without running it it can often drop quite a bit on the stick after it's run .

It is normal for a older engine to burn oil. My 1152 had worn rings and a failing rod change oil seal and it was not uncommon for me to top 500Mls of oil every 2-3 weeks (approx 150 miles) and I don't classify this as excessive.

The manual says something stupid like it can drink up to 1L of oil every 1000miles or something like that

At the end of the day if your engine has done 50,000+ miles it's tired and you would expect it to seep past the rings, seep past the valve guides, drip here and there. It all adds up.

Check your oil level as often as you can, takes 5 secs to do, and you can then get an idea of how much or how little your engine is burning. Check before a long drive, check the next day after that long drive to see what "dammage" has been done.
