| Post subject: | mag nut washers & heat shields |
hi all i have a set of jellybean mags, of which two wheels are missing their mag washers but as you all know, these washers are tapered / dished / chamfered. i have found Auger (manufacturer). they are in New Zealand and they haven't offered these washers for decades. so now i've got two options: if i can buy them, does anyone know where from? or i can get them machined....but does someone know what material i should specify?? also on a different note, i have waaaaaaaaaaay too much heat coming in through the firewall and exhaust tunnel. i saw that Dr Mini has heard of some aluminium thing that they use in aircraft?? any more info? i live in darwin so it get pretty hot on most days and would like to shield the whole exhaust/ engine bay. thanks in advance |

Hey schmoogene, Sorry I can't help with the aluminium stuff, but.. I had that trouble when I was in Darwin as well. I solved it by dropping into Blackwoods in Winnellie and picking up some heat shielding fiberglass cloth. It cost 30 dollars for a 2 inch by ten meter roll. I wrapped this around my extractors down the individual pipes and down as far as the diff housing. The ends were secured with stainless hose clamps. It worked a treat in stopping the heat, and still does the job today. I've heard that people have had rust issues with the fiberglass tape, but I haven't seen any after 6 years, I'm not sure if it's a problem at all really... |

If you can get one of the washers out or accurately measure one drmini in aust(Kev) can turn up some replacements , PM him from here with what you're after - http://www.ausmini.com/forums/profile.p ... ofile&u=72 Kev , if you see this , I'm still trying to get one out of my wheels to send ..... |

that's grrrrrreat and I have, in my posession, at this very moment, one of those aforementioned washers!!! i shall draw it up on autocad.. hoooraaaay for ausmini. mick - thanks for that...i've heard that it can make the welds and whole exhaust system melt, but this is a stock system and i don't think the heat build up will cause any problems... |

I had heard that the heat eroded the steel away as it weakened, I haven't found that myself although I don't doubt that it may happen on really heavily loaded engines. It might be a little fiddly trying to do that trick with the fibergalss wrap on the stock manifld though. |
