Hi there all you mad mini folk Falcon here I got myself a '78 blue mini van totally stock at the mo but have plans to make it into a little pocket rocket just having funding problems being a uni student(usyd) I've work on al sorts of cars/trucks, but mini's are new to me 
so excuse any silly qestions i ask

hullo boy have you found your way out of the "honda disc brakes" thread? i reckon a booster would solve your problems, i heard they can cost about $500 |

can seomone explain the workings of a brake booster? i thought it just accepts a little pressure from the pedal and somehow amplifies it into all four brakes and then i heard something about the vaccuum from the engine... ? |

a booster won't increase the braking capacity of your car, it will only make it easier to push the pedal though. A full recoed, and well working braking system in a mini, and most old cars have a pretty solid pedal. Most new cars have a booster already, but if it didn't you would be hard pressed to press the pedal. try is one day. park your new car on a hill, turn it off and then start rolling. brake, then you will know what it is doing. the brakes will doo the same job, you just have to do more work. Cheers Aaron Exactly aaron and with my driving style i'm begining to wonder if there is enough room in a 10" rim to get the braking capacity i need! Doc, to increase braking power, you primarily need to increase the surface area in which your pads touch yr disc. A booster will require you to put in less force to brake, but the major advantage of it is the all important, particlularly in an emergency, reaction time. After doin some research, and with the help you you good folk on this site, i have decided it's too **** expensive to upgrade at the mo, ...so will sadly  leave it till i have the cash to put a 1275+ in. Particularly since the van has a tired old dry(hard) rubber suspension...
...Which would need an upgrade to accomadate the driving style that goes with the extra performance(i.e. Fanging hard round corners!!!))

yeah, i know but when i got cash to put a 1275 or more in, i should also have the cash to do the brakes! has anyone every put a big block V8 in the back of a minivan and brought it to the drags?? now that would be entertainment!!! |

I've heard of guys with race cooper s' that have taken the booster off because htey can feel the pedal better without it. |

I see your van I think on Parramatta Road now and then as I go by. falc n i go to syd uni its funny coz i thought this new blue van belonged to someone not at uni so didnt even put a note on their windscreen one day i saw it pull up at the lights, ran up to it low and behold it was Paul the 'paddy' (any offence? sorry) from uni |
