Where can I get those little plastic plugs that the pins of the exterior chrome badges slip into? The old ones were too brittle to use

genuine part number was JLM270 (from memory) & was called a ---> "snib"

otherwise try some accessory appolstery shops, they have all that sort of stuff too

Supercrap have those little spring washer type things you push on and they grip and the curved metal adds tension to hold the badge tight against the surface

MG Heritage in Sydney sell them. From memory thay are less than $1 each. 30c comes to mind, but I am an old bugger.

Also, here is a tip for you all. Holden and Ford used the same badge mounting during the same period, so don't just assume they are a rare and hard to get Mini part.

Hi guys,
If we're talking earlier cars here, some badges (including the Cooper "S" letter) are held with "mouse condoms", or a little whitish plastic plug that is pushed into a hole in the panel. When the badge is fitted, the pin expands the plug and holds the badge and plug secure.

Only 11p each.

When fitting do these plastic thingies press into the holes in the body, then put the badge on, or do they attach to the pins once they are on the body and sticking through?

Stick them through the hole, then push the badge on. They can be tricky, if they're stubborn they will tear the back of the condom off as you push the badge on.

All garage work involves equal measures of enthusiasm, ingenuity and a fair degree of irresponsibility.

To stop this (particularly in cold weather) put the plastic thingys in hot water to soften em a bit before pushing them in. It works.
