Post subject:  my last paint question - does metalic acylic require a clear

Hey Guys,

Paint is almost done on the van. Now I broke the rules on the roof by putting some metalic silver acylic in with the acylic clear. This went very wrong, but resulted in me painting lots more of this on to get a nice silver roof. (was going for a slight metalic purple - only added 5% metalic sliver to 95% clear / thinners).

Do I have to spray clear over this silver clear mix? or just leave it.

I only fear that the metalic with rust being exposed slightly to air. The pain of a little fleck pulling out during polishing doesn't phase me, it a simple paint job / daily driver.

Many thanks in advance! Tom.

For the cost and effort of putting a couple more coats of clear on, I'd do it. I don't think the end result will last or survive cutting & polishing - I believe it goes dull from what I've read.

No it doesnt. However its avisable to do it.. The old acrylic metalic cars never did.. This is why the barsterds faded like no tomorow, the reason is the metalic flakes that are exposed to the air will oxidise and rust causing the car to fade.... Clear it and no more oxidation however it will fade over time as all acrlyic does..
