Hi,

Does anyone know what paint are good to go on the shell? Especially for a mini?

PPG, Glasurit? Standox?

I got told the German's Glasurit are the best paint. But some say PPG are also good.

cheers,
Ben A.

so how would you rate it?
1) Glasurit
2) PPG
3) HOK
How much difference in price. And how big the difference in result?

What about Standox? How does it compare with the rest?

They are all realy the same mate... HOK has some good effects paints but realy that is the only difference. You can get the ssame finish same colours same everything with each paint..

Standox is good too..... Just dont buy the real chea paint... If you havent heard of them then chances are they are crap.. All the big paint companys are UV raated for Australia the cheap stuff isnt, After a year the paint will start to fade crack craze and delaminate. Cant cope with our UVs.

Go PPG its relative cheap and everyone has used it.

Here in Aus there is a few levels of paint systems and i'll give a quick few examples.

Premium Quality Paints are Glasurit, PPG, Spies Hecker, Standox. I've heard mixed reactions to HOK paints some excellant some not so.

Cheap to Good are ChemSpec, HiChem, Debeers, DuPont (i'd rate this here not from experience but from reputation),Protec, Spartan, Concept etc

Expensive paint is expensive for a good reason and realistically choosing a paint brand is a whole lot more than just the price as some of the cheaper brands can cost you in the long term more than the initial purchase price.

If your going to pay someone (ie a shop) I'd INSIST on a quality paint system used on your car.

People will say a good painter can make any paint look good which is true.......but how long it lasts will have more to do with its chemical construction.

The other side of the coin is a bad painter can make good paint look bad too :P

Paint manufacturers are coming out with better paint systems every year including some exciting durable clears so for us restorers its a good thing!!

Ic, thx..I have went to 3 different spray painters/smash reparers/panel beaters so far and they seemed like to stick to their own type of paint that they use everyday.

One guy use PPG in Chatswood (just around my house called Steward xxx smash repairs), the other use Glasurit (www.vcdc.com.au) and says it's the best paint in the world, he says the ferrairis and Benz, etc use them. Another (www.maroubraauto.com.au) reputable spray painter says they use Standox.

Oh, my matic is Concept paint.

Paint and paint system aren't the same hey? You mean there are good paints out there but if the painter doesn't follow the paint system from the manufacturer very well, the paint will look not as good or even crap? So it's better letting them use their own paint they are skillful with than to forcing them to use the one that you prefer?

By the way, the cars are yours? or are they your clients? they look awesome mate! What's the green one?

Sorry yes I was referring to them as the same thing, All paint manufacturers will recommend using their brand of paint from start to finish and its well advised to.

Concept is a cheaper brand

ok mixed opinions,

diferent paint shops use different paints, holden uses ppg out of the factory,
i have heard all good things about standox also, just that its not as well known as ppg

debeer is a cheap paint, but they make a wikid dye to add to paint to make it look crazy 8)

my brother in law worked at a paintshop using standox

and then at another 1 using debeer

its up to who gives u the best quote really!!
