Now I have a box with a resverse light switch I may as well use it.
Should I change the rear indicators to dual filament and use them as reverse lights or take the easy route and install a small white light under the bumper?

You will have to go to the 2 screw rear lights, rare now and not all had the dual filament bulb holder.
Or you could cut the arse of the car up for Clubby lamps, meh... I'd keep it original.

I took the dual filament holders for the brake/tail lights out of some old indicator assembies and swapped them over for the single filament holders for the indicators.It wasn't too hard, just ease up the lips to get them out, swap over and push the lips down with a bit of araldite to make sure they stay in.
It was all out of the 2 screw assemblies , I don't know how it would go trying to mix and match from the 3 screw or clubby assemblies.

Thanks Drekkus - glad to see someone else has done it - what you did is what I was thinking but just thought it was just another of my hairbrain ideas for overkill

The other option is to use the standard single filament globe and fit a diode to the wire to stop it feeding the front blinker. This is what a lot of manufacturers did in the 60s.

thats what i did, from the headlight relay i ran a 3rd wire and ran it through the fuse box to the switch and light then ground-. i used a big ass fog lamp which isnt like a spot light but has the blinding glow of one, im thinking of adding a switch so i can flash a 4wd in the eye when he tail gates me with all 6 spotties shinning is my rear vision mirror,

just a question but how would you get it to show your indication when you have it in reverse

If you have a bloody great super oscar as a reversing lamp then nobody will see you indicators anyway. My clubby lights up the two rear indicators as reversing lights and the limited time I am in reverse makes me think that that is adequate.

I have seen and been in mini (and others) rally cars with bloody great rear lights. We can spot light roos with them.

Just go for the 60s look - FB lucas spotlight mounted in the middle of the boot.

Memories - trying to explain a car load of unconscious dolly birds to a suspicious panda driver - just because you went round the round-a-bout three times (no satnav in those days) and forgot to switch the reversing light off. A yellow and black rally S with dayglo kangaroos doesn't help )
