Hi,

Does anyone know how? I heard of powder-coating. Does normal body paint goes on top after powder coat?

Thx

You can grind, chemical strip or sand blast the frames back and then there are two options most will choose from. To paint (with por15 or another chassis black) or to powdercoat the frames.
Painting can be done at home for the cost of the chassis black paint so is easy to achieve, or you can hand it over to be powder coated. Powdercoating is long lasting and durable, painting is dependant on the quality of the paint which can be hit and miss (POR15 seems to be the stuff to use to get a good finish). Paining can also be durable if the preparation is performed well.. Painting can easily be touched up whereas powdercoating can chip but will not abrade off as easily. If Powdercoating is applied too thickly in cornes, it may crack later on marring the finish. You have a choice of hundreds of colours with powdercoating as in painting, so no overcoat is required. I have powdercoated subframes myself.

You might notice that the subframes have many nooks and crannies where powder coating won't always get to and can lead to nasty little rust spots. I would suggest that you get the subs sand blasted, check for rust holes (particularly in the rears) , then ASAP etch prime with 2pk, then finish with 2pk black (not gloss if you want original finish).
Replace all rubber bits and check needle bearings and bushes for wear, replace as necessary.
Good luck.

Actually, I know sand blast use sand. But how? any special equipment to use? Ihead people use wire brush...

etch prime is just prime heh?

Dunno if it has been already powder coated or finished with 2Pk, will post some pictures underneath for you to see soon. It' s kind of rough so I guess it would be powder coat. But will see.

Ive had both subframes powder coated in satin black, all the suspension/brake components have been powder coated as well.
